Happy Valentine's Day!!!

I have had some really fun cakes lately! The tea pot cake was challenging and fun and the Tangled cake turned out really cute, the look on the little girls' face was priceless and made my day :) Lots of interesting cakes on the calendar for Feb/March!
I want to thank everyone who purchased cupcakes at Perks Van Wert!! It was a huge success! I will be having Valentine's cupcakes there again tomorrow. Stop by and get a yummy treat for your loved ones! The plan for now is to do the cupcakes at Perks the 1st. of each month and some holidays!
I am having so much fun putting together recipes for the "gourmet" cupcakes. I will be adding a page on here that will list the special flavors and pricing....I just have to find the spare time to do it, so stay tuned! I have also been rolling some things around in my brain for some special "treats to go"...will let you know about these when it comes together!

I am so excited to share that I will be selling cupcakes at Perks Coffeehouse in Van Wert, Ohio starting February 1st. I will have them there the 1st. of each month and will feature three flavors to start with and change it up each month with themes & holiday inspiration.
Perks Coffeehouse is located on W. Main street in downtown Van Wert!
Their hours are: M-F 6:30am-5pm
Sat. 8am-1pm
Closed Sunday

It finally snowed!

The beginning of January, and we finally have our first real snow fall! Unbelievable! The holidays were insane, but fun and I had a nice week and 1/2 break, but now its back to the craziness.
Over Christmas break, my daughter and her friend had a mentoring project that they had to do for their Lifeskills class. They asked me to teach them how to decorate a cake! We had a lot of fun and I think they learned a lot! I am so proud of how well they did and their snowflake cake was awesome! They honestly did all of the work, with direction of course.
Keep checking back, I have some really fun cupcakes coming up in the next week!!

WOW! There are so many really fun ideas out there for Holiday cookies and cupcakes! I am so excited to try some new things this year and do more than just the tradition "iced sugar cookie". I recently got hooked on Pinterest, I am getting lots of great ideas from there. If you have not been on the site yet, check it out!
I am way behind on my shopping...as usual! LOL. Not sure when I will get it completed, but it is looking like this weekend, I will have to make time!!

The Holidays are upon us!

Well, I made it through Thanksgiving and now have to start getting into the Christmas spirit! I hear we are possibly going to get some snow on Tuesday, and hope that I can get my decorating done before that happens! We have yet to put our lights up outside! Things tend to slow down in the cake department this time of year, but that is fine with me! It is such a busy time of year, that having just a few here and there works out pretty good!
I hope everyone had a nice Thanksgiving and that you were able to get some good quality family time in!

It has been way too long since I had a chance to update my posts on here!!! September and October are busy months! Lots of birthdays and celebrations going on and it has kept me on my toes!
I just completed a very unique cake for a beer distribution company in Northwood Ohio called Treu House of Munch, Inc. They held an open house party for the official launch of sales for Yuengling Beer in Ohio!! I was very flattered and excited to do this cake for them and I had so much fun with it! After I posted the pic on my Face Book page, you could not believe how many people text me wanting to know when and where they could buy this beer! I literally had to turn the sound off on my cell so that I could go to sleep last night! I think their sales will do VERY well in Ohio! LOL
I will try to do better at keeping up with the posting part...I will always post the new pics right away!

Are you ready for school?

The summer is coming to an end and another school year is about to begin! I cannot believe that my kids are getting ready to start 7th. and 5th. grades! Where has the time gone? We had a jam-packed summer full of baseball and softball games, lots of cakes and managed to get away for a weekend of camping!

I am ready for school!! I will admit, I am looking forward to having my house back so that it can remain "clean" for more than 5 minutes! The kids are ready too, it is getting to the point where they are saying "I'm bored" every 5 minutes! When that happens, they get put to work! LOL

The weather has finally decided to give us a break...it has been a perfect 80-ish degrees and cool at night! This is my favorite time of year!

Wow! I can't believe it is July already! This summer is going way too fast. We had a great 4th. of July this past weekend and spent some time with friends and family. I finally have a little down time to catch up on some things around the house and I am enjoying the hot weather! I hope everyone had a wonderful holiday weekend!

I know most of us grew up thinking there were just four seasons in the year, but I am making it official...there are 5!! It's that time from the end of April till the beginning of July when there are all of the Graduations, Birthdays and Weddings. By mid-July I need a vacation and usually ask myself again, why I do this, but the answer is always that I love it!

April is such a busy month with all of the birthdays and activities. I have had some really fun and interesting cakes this month and I am really looking forward to some down time with the family this weekend!

I think spring is here! It is a beautiful sunshiny day and the birds are starting to sing. It is amazing how a little sunshine puts you in a better mood!
I have had some requests from those who visit my blog often, to put the most recent picture where it is easier to find. So, I will always put the most recent on the front page! If I have more than 1, you can find the most recent will be the first cake pictured in each category. Hope this helps!

Ready for Spring!!

This seams like the longest winter ever!! I have had enough of the snow and below freezing temps, bring on the sunshine and warm weather!! December and January were a little slower for cake orders, but it was a much needed break. Things are starting to pick up again here in February! I usually only need about a weeks notice if you want to order a cake, but as it gets closer to Graduations and Wedding season, you may need to call earlier. I do my best to accommodate everyone, but sometimes, I have to say no. I don't like to, but I can only handle a certain number of cakes at a time. The earlier you place your order, the better.
I am loving the new page design for the site! I think it is much more user friendly! I appreciate all of the compliments on the look of it!

Crazy Holiday Season

It is almost Christmas! I cannot believe how fast this year has gone. My oven is begging for mercy right about now as I have been baking like a mad woman the past 5 days. I had 3 cakes and 6 dozen cookies to make! Oh yea, and somewhere in all this madness, I managed to get all of the shopping done..wrapped...and under the tree before Christmas Eve! That is a first for me! I usually am up very late on Christmas eve finishing up everything!

3-D Cakes

As you can see, I have been doing more of the 3-D or carved cakes lately! I am enjoying this challenge as it really pushes me to think outside of the box. Some cakes have been more difficult and frustrating than others. I will be honest...a few I have wanted to throw against the wall! LOL! But, in the end, I always learn something new! I am not afraid to try anything, so if you have an idea, let me know!
I have also started to dabble in using some candy molds for some of the decorations on cupcakes. (see Halloween Cupcakes) These are very fun and yummy!
We are coming up on the holiday season so quickly! I cannot believe it is mid November already! I guess I better get started on my Christmas shopping soon! :)

Fall is here!

With another school year under way and football in full swing, I do believe fall is upon us! I have a love/hate relationship with fall. I love the cooler weather, the golden color of the cornfield across the road, the football on the weekends and the changing of the leaves. What I hate is the effect it has on my allergies!!

While August and September have been rather slow for cakes, October is looking like it will be quite busy! It is interesting when I look back over the past year to be able to see what months tend to be busy and which ones are not. I am starting to see trends as I can now compare this year to last year. This should make it easier for me to know what to expect for a coming month!

I have several unique themed cakes coming up that I am very excited to do! I will post those pictures as soon as they are done!

Where did summer go?

I can't believe it is August already!! I had a nice week and a half of vacation the end of July and then dove right back into this crazy cake world of mine! Tackled my 1st. BIG wedding with a 3-tier cake and 4 sheet cakes. Wow....it was alot of work, but worth it! Now on to several birthdays and the start of another school year!!

What have I gotten myself into? LOL

There are some weeks that I wonder what the heck I was thinking when I started making cakes! Then, I see the reaction of the customer or the one being surprised and I remember exactly why! I absolutely LOVE what I am doing, even when it is stressful! These past couple of months have pushed me to my limits at times, but also shown me what I really am capable of! I am really looking forward to some down time in July to relax and finally enjoy summer!
I usually try not to pick favorites when it comes to my cakes, but....I do have to say that the Hawaiian Themed Bridal Shower cake is one of my favs!!! I had so much fun designing and creating it!!

Well, It was exactly 1 year ago this weekend that I made my very first Fondant covered cake! I can't believe a whole year has passed. I never imagined that I would be doing so many cakes for people! I love it! This time of year is extremely busy with Graduations, Birthdays and Weddings! I told my husband, jokingly, that he was going to have to hire me a housekeeper...I can't seem to get much "housework" done lately because I have been working so many hours on these cakes! I am excited to have a few Wedding Cakes coming up and a few more Graduations. Vacation in July will be much needed!!

Wow! This month is flying by already! I am so glad to be heading into the homestretch. I just had an insane weekend with four cakes, and I am ready for a little break, even if it will be a short one. I have 3 more for the last weekend of the month in addition to helping organize my son's school carnival. I am booking more weddings and graduations for this summer and I am excited to do some new designs
I am coming up on the 1 year anniversary of CakeCrazy Edible Art!!! I can't believe that my fun hobby has turned into such a great business! I am still having a blast with each cake..even in the "crazy" times!! Thanks to all!!

Spring is here!!

SPRING...Yay!!!! Mother-Nature is definitely unpredictable! One day it is sunny and warm and the next it is rainy and cold! I am so ready for some sunshine and warmer weather. March has gone by so quickly already. I have had a bit of a break this month with only a few cakes. It is nice sometimes to be able to relax a little and catch my breath! April is going to be very busy, so I am glad I had this little break! I have six cakes in just the first few weeks of April and then my son's Elementary School Carnival is the last w/e. I organize all of the food, so I made sure I didn't book any cakes, as this is a huge undertaking! I enjoy it, but thank GOD it is only once a year!! LOL.
Well, I have officially taken orders from all corners of Ohio!! Toledo to Cleveland to Dayton and Cinci! Pretty exciting!! I have booked a Wedding in June and many, many Birthdays all the way through September! I greatly appreciate all of the business and every new challenge that I am given.

Many have asked me if I do weddings, and the answer is YES! But you have to understand that I focus on unique, one-of-a-kind cakes. I do not do traditional buttercream cakes! There are plenty around who do, so I want to stick with my unique FONDANT covered cakes and not deviate. I want your cake to be the "WOW" factor of the party, not blend in. So, if this is what you are looking for, please give me a call!!

It may be a while before I can post again, as I said before, April is going to be very hectic. I will update the pictures as I can though. Happy Spring Everyone!!

Enough of the snow already!!

February has brought one snowstorm after another! Not only have we been slammed with snow here in Ohio, but I have been very busy with cake orders! That's a good thing...well, not the snow! Just when I think that I have tried everything, I get an order that really challenges me. This is why I love making these cakes!
The first new challenge was in sculpting a person for my husband's 40th. birthday cake. I was very pleased with how, "gumpaste Brent", as my daughter called it, turned out. I also had to spend a great deal of time on the cards, drawing in the details with edible markers, so that they actually looked like real playing cards!
The next challenge was a Hydrangea cake. This was my very first attempt at doing gumpaste and fondant flowers, very time consuming but they tuned out wonderful!!
I am starting to book larger events now, which is exciting! I am also booking Graduation cakes for this coming June, so I am anticipating the end of May/beginning of June being absolutely insane! Loving every minute of it, though!

Wow, what a way to kick off the new year! I had 2 cakes to complete for this week and boy was I busy! It is all about time management when you are a "one woman show"! For New Year's Eve, I always make a ton of food for the family and we stay in with the kids and play board games and stuff ourselves with food. It won't be long before our kids want nothing to do with hanging out with Mom and Dad, so I take advantage of every chance to have some quality time with them. Needless to say, I had a couple of very late nights this week in order to get everything accomplished! It is all worth it! I am really enjoying making the cakes and each one brings on a new challenge. So, "Happy New Year" everyone and may it be even better than the last!!

Tis the Season....

December is just about one of the craziest months, with all of the holiday preparations and shopping. Of course, I HAD to do a cake that looked like a wrapped present! One of the other recent cakes that I was asked to do was for a "Sweet 16" Birthday. This was a very cool cake and my first opportunity to do tye-dyed fondant! The theme is peace signs and cheerleading as this girl is a cheerleader for Van Wert High School. I also got to try out some new techniques with extruding fondant to make the pom poms...turned out better than I had anticipated! I actually used my grandmothers old cookie press to create this look...you never know what you have around in the kitchen that will someday be useful! It is hard to see all of the decorations on the cake, but there are megaphones, cheerleader silhouettes and cougar paws, and well as smaller peace signs. You just can't capture all of that in the picture.
I will have several more pictures to add in the coming months with festive presents to pretty snowflakes, so check back often! Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to all!

Wow! November is shaping up to be a very busy month! I am so excited! I am already taking orders well into next year! I have decided that I probably won't update the "post" section of my blog more than once a month, I don't want to bore you with my ramblings...after all, you are here to see my cakes!! I will ALWAYS update the pictures of each cake that I do! So, check back often and leave me a message if you have any questions or just give me a call! I typically only need a week or two notice if you would like for me to do a cake, but as we get closer to the holidays, it may get a little crazy!

Topsy Turvy Cakes

Topsy Turvy Cakes, also known as "Mad Hatter Cakes" are unique because they look as if they will topple over at any second. The design and construction is very tricky but also alot of fun! I had my first opportunity to try my hand at a Topsy Turvy Cake when I was asked to make a Halloween Birthday cake for one of my daughter's friends who was turning 11. I decided to do this type of cake because I wanted it to be very unique and I thought it was fitting for the spooky theme of the party. I was very pleased with how it turned out! I will definitely be doing this type of cake construction again!

How it all began...

I am a stay-at-home mom who NEEDS a creative outlet! I have tried many, many things from crafts to sewing and just couldn’t find what it was that I was passionate about. I received my degree in Fashion Merchandising and Design from Bowling Green State University. I love sketching and designing, but life eventually took me in a different direction, marriage, kids, and the usual family obligations. I worked in Recruiting for awhile, but decided that staying home to raise my children was what was best for my family, and luckily, my husband was all for it! “When the wife is happy, the family is happy” right? But I was still missing something…my creative outlet!! I love to express myself through cooking, baking and entertaining; I feel it is a lost art! I decided that I needed to take my design talents into the kitchen!

I am addicted to watching The Ace of Cakes on Food Network and Cake Boss on TLC. I wondered if I could do what they do, so I did a little research on techniques and supplies and set off to attempt my first cake. It wasn’t perfect by any means, but I was inspired! I was immediately hooked on the amount of design and details that go into creating a fondant covered cake! Finally!! I knew what my calling was!
At first, I was just making a few cakes for friends and family, but as word got out about my unique cakes, business started to pick up! I decided that it was time to come up with a name for my growing business. After many “trial” cakes and experiments which my husband and kids were happy to taste test, my daughter said “Mom, you are going crazy with the cake making”. It stuck in my head…why not call it CakeCrazy? I wanted something that said this is not your typical, boring cake! So there you have it!
I only use homemade fondant and butter cream icing for my cakes! The pre-made and manufactured stuff does not taste good! Why go to all the trouble of creating a cake if the icing will be peeled off? I want the entire cake to be as delicious as it looks!

Each cake is individually designed to match you, your personality, and the theme of the occasion you are celebrating. I specialize in one of-a-kind cakes, and I work with every customer to create a unique and delicious work of edible art. I take great pride in the design and construction of each cake. No two cakes are alike. If you have an idea, I can make it!

My theory is that the cake is one of the most important parts of any celebration. Especially for brides, you are the star of the wedding and the cake is the star of the reception!
